Enhancing Maize Silage Quality
This week, our Technical Director, Andreas Milimonka, presented his latest research at the Nordic Feed Science Conference 2024 in Uppsala (Sweden).
This conference aims at bringing together scientists engaged in feed related research as well as advisory services and industry.
Andreas’ poster, "Effect of Different Additives and Harvesting Date on Fermentation Characteristics of Maize Silage," in cooperation with experts from KWS SAAT and the University of Bonn, demonstrates how different additives and harvesting dates impact the fermentation process and overall quality of maize silage, which is crucial for dairy cow diets.
Key findings from our research:
🔹 Enhanced fermentation techniques significantly boost the nutritional value of silage, benefiting the dairy industry
🔹 Lactobacillus buchneri boosted by Enterococcus faecium is the key for elevated acetic acid and 1,2-propanediol -a high energy glucoplastic substance- concentrations in the silage.
